Stakeholders' Planning Meeting

Marine Protected Areas in the Stakeholders Planning for the Northern Leyte Gulf
April 18-19, 2005

Pamana conducted a stakeholders’ meeting for the Marine Protected Areas (MPA) in the Leyte Gulf during April 18-19, 2005 at the G.D.F.I. Environmental Training Center in Pob. Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Participating in the activity were several POs, MPA managers, and even some representations from the LGUs in the seven municipalities of Eastern Samar: Guiuan, Salcedo, Mercedes, Lauaan, Giporlos, Quinapundan, and Balangiga. Present during the discussions were Lauaan Mayor Manuel G. Inciso and Guiuan Mayor Annaliza Gonzales-Kwan.

The MPA managers shared the issues and concerns at their sites, and through workshops with their LGU and PO partners, came up with recommendations and action plans for their sites. Joining them were Ms. Marge de la Cruz of the Guiuan Development Foundation, Inc., Socrates Banzuela of Haribon, and Ranulfo Arreza, of the Lanuza Bay Development Alliance, who shared the struggles and experiences at their site in the hope that the present stakeholders in Samar would learn from these.

The activity was made possible with the funding support from the Foundation for the Philippine Environment – Visayas Regional Unit (FPE-VRU) under the management of Ms. Myrissa Lepiten-Tabao.
